Tree removal permits in Grants Pass

For a tree inside your own lot line, Grants Pass generally asks for no permit. The city’s Urban Forestry page says a Tree Permit is required to remove, prune or plant trees in the city right-of-way, and the abutting owner maintains those trees, with a 50/50 cost-share for hazardous right-of-way trees. Heritage Trees designated by Council resolution are protected whether on private or public land. Development Code Article 23 covers landscaping in development.

Municipal Code Title 10 could not be read at the time of checking, so fees and any replacement requirement were not confirmed. If the tree stands near the street or might be a Heritage Tree, call Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forester at 541-450-6164 before work. See the Oregon permit guide.

Tree services in Grants Pass

The service pages apply the right-of-way and Heritage Tree rules to each job: tree removal, tree trimming of street trees, stump grinding, land clearing for fire space, and emergency tree service after wind.

What to do next

Confirm the tree is on your side of the right-of-way and is not a Heritage Tree; if so, no city permit is needed. For a hazardous street tree, ask the Urban Forester about the 50/50 cost-share. A risk assessment helps after wind damage. Check the contractor in the Oregon license lookup.
